Websites, Home Buying, and Retail Stores, What do they have in Common?

Questions:
  • How can I maximize my website's ability to market my Small Business?
  • How can I attract more visitors to my website?

What do the following have in common?

  • Websites.
  • Buying a Home.
  • Retail Stores.

Starting with Buying a Home, what are the 3 most important things in your decision?  Someone might've already told you, "Location, Location, Location."  Good emphasis, right?  Likewise, if you're familiar with the retail industry they would answer the 3 most important things when opening a retail store are, "Frontage, Frontage, Frontage."

Well, the answer is similar for creating valuable and business effective websites: "Content, Content, Content."  While many already know this answer, very few execute it.  I like the word "execute" here because it emphasizes an active commitment towards your website, just as should be with any part of your Marketing Plan.  If your website is a passive object, expect passive results.

An exmaple should drive this point.  You may likely read a daily newspaper.  Do you regularly go back and re-read old issues?  By definition, it wouldn't really be "news" anymore.  What maintains you as a regular subscriber/reader is fresh news.  If your website has nothing new or news worthy, don't expect return visitors or many new visitors.  Would you subscribe to the imaginary newspaper, "The Small Business Technology Chronicle," if it's one and only publication was made five years ago?

This is not to insinuate a static website is unworthy, but wager your expectations of its marketing power appropirately.  Marketing is an important component of any successful business and your website should be one component of your Marketing Plan.  And without fresh content, your website will attract about as many visitors as a bill board, unlit, on a dead end street.  Really.

To address this need consider a Blog for your site.  You've likely heard of Blogs by now, and there's good reason for it (You're reading one!).  Blogs are a convenient simple way to post information to your site and keep it fresh with "Content, Content, Content."  This will help improve your search ranking on Google, Yahoo!, Bing, etc.  and increase your number of potential clients and customers.  Most web hosting companies offer Blogging Software as part of their offering.  One of the most popular Blogging packages is Wordpress, which Web-Kong offers as part of our Web Hosting services.

A better solution is using a Content Management System (CMS) for your website.  CMS's facilitate the easy update of new content on your site among many other valuable web management features.  Our web hosting services offer several popular CMS choices including Drupal, Joomla, and Mambo.

At just dollars per month there's no reason not to convert to a CMS immediatly!  Every day your site is not found by somone in their Internet looking for you is just another lost customer.
